My dear friends and community,
We are living through a painful moment in history.
Each day, we witness war, displacement, and the tragic erasure of ancient cultures—from Iraq to Syria to Haiti.... from sacred monuments to oral traditions. The silencing of stories. The destruction of memory.
In times like these, I am reminded of the quiet, vital act of remembering—of honoring where we come from, and passing that knowledge forward, especially to our children.
As many of you know, my roots run deep through Haiti and across the African continent. I was lucky—my parents gave me a rich and open education that connected me to my cultural and spiritual lineage. It is this gift that I now seek to pass on through my new children’s book:
OUR VODOU: A Vodou Bedtime Story (Vol 1)
Coming in September 2025, OUR VODOU is a beautifully illustrated picture book that invites young readers on a two-part journey through history, culture, and spirit. It begins in the ancient empires of Kush and Nubia, travels through the majestic kingdoms of Dahomey, and follows our ancestors through the Middle Passage to the founding of Ayiti (Haiti) the first Black Republic, born of resistance and sacred strength in 1804.
This is not just a Haitian story. It’s a human one—about resilience, spirituality, and the beauty of honoring where we come from. In a world that often seeks to divide, I believe the seeds of unity are planted through understanding. And that understanding begins with education.
That’s why I’m reaching out to you, my friends, my community, my village. As I prepare to release this labor of love, I need your help.
I’ve created two covers for the book—one featuring a majestic mountain, the other a magical, sprawling tree. Both images carry deep symbolic meaning in Vodou and our ancestral traditions. But I’d love to know:
Which cover speaks to you most? Which one would you pick up for a child in your life?
Can you help me choose a cover image?
The Magical Tree -

or The Mountain ?

Please send me a message and your thoughts. Your feedback means the world.
With love, gratitude, and a fierce commitment to keeping our stories alive,
Malou

Bonjour Malou et bravo pour ce merveilleux projet ! Pour ma part je préfère The Mountain même si j’aime les deux. J’ai hâte de lire ton livre. À bientôt j’espère, Mimi
Bonjour Malou ! Congratulations! Personally, I love the first cover with the magical, sprawling tree. But that's just me. Will it also be in French and/or Créole? Merci! – Julia
