Our Vodou Hits the Road! A Remarkable June Journey

June has been an extraordinary month for the OUR VODOU book series, bringing us from New Orleans to Miami and New York as we shared stories, culture, and conversations rooted in the rich traditions of Vodou.

New Orleans International Vodou Days

Our summer road tour began in New Orleans at the New Orleans International Vodou Days, a powerful celebration of Vodou's cultural, artistic, and spiritual legacy. The gathering brought together practitioners, scholars, musicians, artists, and community leaders from around the world in a vibrant exchange of ideas and traditions.

One of the most exciting moments of the event was being featured in a June 1, 2026 article in Billboard magazine covering the festival. The article highlighted my participation as both an artist and author, noting my work to help "destigmatize the religion" through the OUR VODOU children's book series, alongside my music and creative projects.

The article also referenced Spiritwalker, my 2018 album exploring traditional Vodou songs in contemporary musical contexts, and shared my reflections on the historical connections between Irish indentured servants and enslaved Africans in the Americas—communities whose experiences of hardship, faith, and survival contributed to fascinating cultural intersections that continue to resonate today.

Billboard: International Vodou Day in New Orleans

Haiti Creative Marketplace — Miami

Next stop: Miami, where I participated in the Haiti Creative Marketplace, beautifully curated by Daniel St. Lot. This dynamic event showcased Haitian creativity and entrepreneurship across multiple disciplines.

I was delighted to present the OUR VODOU book series alongside the striking Modern Manbo Veve scarves, creating a dialogue between literature, visual symbolism, and contemporary Haitian design. The marketplace provided a wonderful opportunity to connect with readers, artists, and members of the Haitian diaspora who continue to champion our cultural heritage.

Celebrating Mothers and Supporting a Worthy Cause at the Biltmore Hotel in Miami -

Before heading back to New York, I had the privilege of participating in the Haitian Mother's Day Brunch at the historic Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables, organized by Rachel Moscoso Denis in support of Groupe de Support Contre le Cancer (GSCC).

The elegant event brought together members of the Haitian community and supporters of cancer awareness for an afternoon dedicated to honoring mothers

while raising funds for an important cause.

I was delighted to perform selections from my musical repertoire and to present pieces from my Modern Manbo collection, sharing the beauty of Haitian-inspired fashion and artistry with attendees. The event offered a wonderful opportunity to celebrate culture, community, and compassion while supporting the vital work of cancer advocacy and awareness.

A Memorable Afternoon at the Salon du Livre Haïtien

The month culminated last Sunday at the Salon du Livre Haïtien at Nassau Community College. The event was made even more special by a rousing vocal performance featuring Syto Cavé—legendary Haitian writer, actor, and poet—and Alan Cavé, one of Haiti's most beloved singers.

Together, we celebrated the unveiling of the brand-new Haitian Creole edition of OUR VODOU:

VODOU NOU : Yon Vwayaj Majik

Introducing this new edition to the community was both moving and inspiring. Seeing readers engage with the book in Haitian Creole reinforces our commitment to making these stories accessible to new generations while honoring the language and culture that continue to sustain them.

The Journey Continues

The road show is far from over.

This fall, OUR VODOU will continue its travels with appearances planned at Galerie Jean Mapou in Miami this November, with additional cities and events to be announced soon.
